Why do I need to register for Distributed Campus?
Distributed Campus is not a typical website. Instead, it is an online resource for international students preparing to spend one or two semesters at the Freie Universität. For this reason, registration is only available for those participating in one of the associated programs.

How do I register for Distributed Campus?
Click on the registration button in the navigation bar above and you will be presented with a registration page. Please fill in all required fields and click register. You will be informed via email as soon as your account is activated.

What do I need to be aware of when choosing a user name and password?
Your password needs to be at least 8 characters long! Please do not use umlaute or certain special characters that are not common in the German language. Only Latin character set and numerals are permitted.

I'm having difficulty registering online. What should I do?
Simply send us an e-mail describing the problem you are experiencing to: distributed.campus@cedis.fu-berlin.de.

How long will it take to activate my user account?
You will need to be patient as registration can take up to 24 hours. All account requests are reviewed before they are activated. Keep in mind that requests received on holidays or on weekends might take longer to process.

How do I login?
There is a login box on the home page. Enter your username and password, and click Login to enter your account.

How can I retrieve my forgotten password?
Clicking on the Forgot your password? link in the Login box will open a registration form. Enter your username and the e-mail address with which you registered. Make sure to spell your e-mail address correctly. Click Send. Your password will be sent to you immediately.

How can I change my personal data?
You can make changes to your personal data (your mailing address, for example) at any time. Exempt from change, however, is your username. After logging in, click on Personal Data in the navigation bar top right. Clear the old data and supply new information in the respective boxes. Click Save.

How can I register for the monthly newsletter?
Please go to Personal Data, select Newsletter and then click Save.

Which browser should I use to get the most from Distributed Campus?
Distributed Campus is optimised for MS Internet Explorer 5 and above versions, Mozilla, Firefox and Netscape 7. Java Script has to be activated

How do I activate Java Script?
Activating Java Script functions differently depending on your browser. If are using Internet Explorer 7, click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options. Click the Advanced tab. If Java is installed, there will be a Java section in the Settings list. To enable Java, select the option under Java. To disable Java, clear the option under Java. When you are finished, click OK. For Firefox: click the Tools button, and then click Preferences. Click the Security tab and then click the checkbox next to Activate JavaScript. When you are finished, click OK.

Which bandwidth do I need to use Distributed Campus?

How do I find information on a certain topic?
You can use the search engine to locate information. Enter your query in the search box on the top right hand of the screen and click Search. Be aware of the language switch. If you search with a German keyword, make sure that you've switched to the German language version of Distributed Campus.

How can I increase the font size to better view Distributed Campus?
The way in which you change the size depends on your browser. If you are using Internet Explorer, go to the Tools menu and select Internet Options. Click on the Accessibility button at the bottom of the window. Five options are available -- select any that applies. If you are using Firefox, go to the Tools menu and select text size. Click multiple times on shrink or enlarge. By the way: If you have a scroll-wheel mouse, then simply press the control key while scrolling to alter the text size
